UFZA taps into the DRC market

Mr. Deogratius Kyomya, Manager Business Development & Investor support interacts with potential investors from Democratic Republic of Congo at the Uganda – DR Congo Business summit 2022

UFZA was part of the official delegation to the first ever Uganda – DR Congo Business Summit organized by the Government of Uganda held between 31st May and 3rd June, 2022, in Kinshasa. The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Community Affairs (MEACA), Hon. Rebecca Kadaga led the Ugandan delegation which included government officials from the Ministries Departments and Agencies and the Private Sector.

In her remarks, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga encouraged DRC to ratify the Customs Union and Common Market Protocol of the East African Community and reiterated Uganda’s commitment to address issues that are currently hindering trade between Uganda and DRC such as taxation, Non-Tariff Barriers, among others. She added that currently, East African Community has focused on establishing a Monetary Institute which will facilitate the third protocol of the EAC; the Monetary Union, by 2024.

She invited them to invest in SEZs where they would get tax holidays and other incentives. UFZA sought to tap into new business frontiers in trade relations between Uganda and DR Congo through discussions of business linkages and markets.
